Matterhorn (4.478mt) Cresta del Leone – Hornli Traverse
Matterhorn needs no introduction: considered by many to be the most beautiful mountain in the world, it stands proudly on the border between Italy and Switzerland. Its conquest marked a historical epic dated more than 150 years ago, but its ascent remains undoubtedly one of the most demanding “normal” routes in the Alps.

Informations:
Day 1
Meeting in Valtournenche / Breuil Cervinia in the late morning. Equipment and skills check. Ascent by jeep to the Duca degli Abruzzi refuge, from there climb to the Capanna Carrel (1000m difference in altitude). Overnight stay with half board included.
Day 2
Departure before dawn and climb along the Cretsa del Leone to the summit through all the mythical passages of this magnificent ascent (cordas della sveglia, mauvais pas, les ecritures, etc.) (600m altitude difference).
Descent along the Hornli ridge + return to Cervinia with lifts. Possible overnight stay at the Hornli refuge or in Zermatt
Day 3 (optional)
If you spend the night at the Hornli refuge or in Zermatt, on the third day you can have a short visit to Zermatt and return to Cervinia by lifts in the early afternoon.
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
Mid-mountain boots with light crampons and ice ax, harness, helmet, headlight.
Mountain clothing including long-sleeved thermal shirt, mountaineering pants, gore-tex shell, mini gaiter, gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen. Technical equipment can be rented.
